Surely, even prisoners onboard the Karura are allowed to approach
unarrested
officers to make reasonable maintenance requests.
You could also sound a little more concerned.

Then you can submit your request to the officer on duty in the detention area.
The main concern I have is how you're going to explain the cause for you being detained in your weekly status report.
